UAE Launches AI-Enhanced Higher Education Platform Serving 40,000 Students Across 74 Institutions

The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has launched an updated, AI-enhanced version of Edu Hub, its registration and admissions platform for higher education institutions. The platform is designed to simplify and streamline the process of exploring institutions and programmes, submitting applications, and planning academic pathways, integrating data and processes across both school and higher education systems in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

The scale of the deployment is significant for a sector-specific government AI platform. A total of 74 public and private higher education institutions are currently registered, including the UAE's three federal universities, United Arab Emirates University, Higher Colleges of Technology, and Zayed University. More than 40,000 students are expected to benefit from the platform during its current phase. The platform is integrated with UAE PASS and other government systems, enabling seamless data exchange and verification that allows students to complete registration without repeatedly uploading or re-entering information from multiple sources.

The functional design reflects a phased approach to student engagement. Grade 10 and Grade 11 students can explore institutions and academic programmes early and plan future studies without submitting formal applications, while Grade 12 students and above can complete the full digital application process, from document upload to tracking admission decisions, with the ability to create a personal profile and submit multiple applications without re-entering information each time.

Amani AlBannay, Assistant Undersecretary for the Support Services Sector at MoHESR, positioned the platform within the Ministry's Zero Government Bureaucracy programme, emphasising the use of data and AI to enhance government service efficiency and strengthen flexibility and innovation across the UAE's higher education system. This places Edu Hub within the same institutional logic driving the UAE's broader agentic government services agenda: AI deployed not as an isolated technology pilot but as integrated infrastructure across multiple government touchpoints, in this case spanning the Ministry of Education, individual institutions, and federal identity verification systems simultaneously.

For Gulf education technology providers and institutions, Edu Hub's cross-system integration model is a relevant case study. The platform's ability to connect school-level data with higher education applications and federal identity verification in a single coherent system represents exactly the kind of multi-stakeholder data architecture that governance experts have flagged as the central operational challenge facing GCC governments as they move AI from policy ambition to system-level execution. MoHESR has paired the platform launch with a dedicated support system for institutions, including business and technical support teams and regular coordination meetings, reflecting an awareness that platform adoption at this scale requires sustained operational support beyond the initial technical rollout.
