DEWA Launches World-First Utility Customer Services on ChatGPT

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has made history by becoming the first utility provider globally to integrate its customer services directly with ChatGPT. This pioneering move allows Dubai residents to manage their utility accounts through simple, conversational AI interactions.

Seamless Conversational Services

Gone are the days of navigating complex menus. With this new integration, customers can simply ask ChatGPT to "Show me my last bill," "Locate the nearest EV charger," or "Explain high consumption this month." The system leverages OpenAI's advanced natural language processing to understand requests and fetch real-time data from DEWA's secure servers.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, emphasized that this launch is a critical step in DEWA's digital transformation journey. "we are not just adopting technology; we are reshaping the utility experience to be proactive, predictive, and personalized," he stated.

Setting a Global Standard

This initiative aligns perfectly with the "Dubai 10X" initiative, which mandates government entities to be 10 years ahead of other global cities. By effectively "hiring" ChatGPT as a customer service agent, DEWA demonstrates how generative AI can be deployed safely and effectively in critical infrastructure sectors.

Security and privacy have been paramount in this rollout. DEWA has assured users that all personal data is handled within strict compliance frameworks, utilizing secure API tunnels to communicate with the AI model without exposing sensitive customer records to the public model training data.
